Your mind is the most important part of you and it rules everything - body, behaviour and emotions. But it doesn't always do exactly what you would like it to and sometimes you have a mind block. A mind block is like a road block. It slows you down - perhaps even brings you to a grinding halt and stops you getting where you want to. You might know what's caused it but often you don't and you get frustrated, angry and irritable because you have no control over the situation.
Sometimes you manage to crawl slowly along, erratically moving forward but still not sure how long it will continue to be like this; sometimes you may be able to find an alternative route and if you're fortunate you just mysteriously start moving again, but may still be unaware of what caused the block in the first place.
Mind bocks can cause just as much frustration, unhappiness or annoyance as road blocks. A road block is usually for a limited time but a mind block can be for a lifetime. So what causes them? They can occur when your subconscious mind isn't happy with a situation or emotion or because it's learnt a particular form of behaviour that isn't beneficial to you.
Fear is a major mind block. Fear of people, things and situations. This can manifest itself as a specific phobia - fear of enclosed spaces, flying, birds etc or it can become more general and spread into general anxiety and panic attacks that could occur in various situations. Something which seems perfectly easy or natural to one person causes another one real terror. A lot of people put up with flying, some enjoy it and others wouldn't even consider getting on a plane.
Some people keep birds as a hobby whilst others will run for shelter if they see one anywhere near them.
Another block is a habit that you've learned that had some relevance at some point in your life but is no longer appropriate. Smoking may have started as part of a desire to be accepted by your mates at school but now has become an unwanted habit that you don't know how to get rid of. Nail biting may have started because you unknowingly copied a family member who bit their nails and now it embarrasses you. There are many habits, such as gambling, drinking and drugs, that progress onto addictions in a search for comfort, excitement or escapism.
A block can be a behaviour that you don't want, such as lack of confidence or low self esteem. This means you avoid situations that would cause you to feel uncomfortable so you miss out on socialising or going after a better job because you're concerned about looking stupid or worried about what people will think about you. Or you never get to really live your dreams because you think you don't deserve them or won't be able to achieve them.
Stress is a big cause of mind blocks. It stops people thinking clearly because there are too many concerns and anxieties to deal with and they start to feel overwhelmed. One of the first signs is often difficulty in sleeping but there can also be physical aches and pains because of hormones caused by stress. Long term stress can also lead to depression and so it becomes a vicious circle.
People have different ways of dealing with road blocks - screaming and shouting to relieve frustration, becoming resigned to them, doing their best to avoid them by staying away from places they know they are likely to get stuck in or listening to the local travel information so they're aware of potential problems.
You can deal with mind blocks in different ways as well - rant and rave or moan about them to anyone who will listen, become resigned to them and limit your enjoyment of life, force yourself to do things even though you feel uncomfortable about them or use the power of your mind to get rid of those blocks so your journey through life takes you to where you want to go.
